Composite fillings are placed when there is decay in the tooth or when there is a desire to replace old silver fillings. A composite filling is a tooth colored quartz-like material. After tooth decay is removed and cleaned, the tooth colored material is layered into the tooth. Each layer is hardened or cured with a highly intense visible light. The surface is then polished to match the tooth. Once completed, the restoration is virtually invisible.
